Saccharin-like substances for use as sugar substitutes
Many saccharin-like substances for use as sugar substitutes have increased in circulation nowadays. Non-caloric artificial sweeteners (eg saccharin, aspartame, acesulfame potassium, etc.) are desirable for diabetics. The pros and cons of some of these well-known laxatives are described below.
(1) Saccharin (Sweetex):
300 to 400 times more than sugar, Saccharin has been used by diabetic patients for years. This substance only gives a bitter taste. Apart from this, no calorie (energy) is obtained from it and it is thrown out as waste from the human body. An animal study found that saccharin causes bladder cancer. Based on this study, the possibility of such cancer in humans cannot be ruled out. Therefore, this substance should be used as little as possible.
(2) Aspartame (aspartame, sugar-free, one-up, equal):
Aspartame, a substance absorbed 200 times more than sugar, is used instead of saccharin and is considered safer than saccharin. Of course, heating for a long time may release some toxic substances from it. Also, some scientists have presented some mental effects and the possibility of brain tumor, but the exact decision has not yet been reached.
(3) Acesulfame potassium:
This substance is also 200 times sweeter than sugar. Sometimes a large quantity of this substance is placed on the tongue, and finally a slightly bitter taste is felt. This substance does not produce any toxic effects even when heated and is the safest of all such substances so far. Thus, using sweeteners instead of sugar has both advantages and disadvantages. In many patients, eating small amounts of sugar, along with other foods, does not make a difference in diabetes control. Such patients do not need to eat saccharin. But those whose diabetes is not under control; Eating sugar increases sugar; And saccharin or other sweet chemicals are useful for patients whose sweetness does not last without food. Up to ten-twelve pills a day, the possibility of side effects remains low.
Importance of exercise in diabetes Exercise is very important to prevent diabetes from occurring and to control it after it occurs. Exercise has been shown to have significant benefits, especially in adult-onset (type-2) diabetes patients. Exercising in the right amount reduces the fat around the abdomen. Reducing the fat around the abdomen increases the effectiveness of insulin. In addition, due to exercise, the amount of muscle in the body increases, due to exercise, type 2 fibers in the muscle are transformed into type 2a fibers, which insulin can have a better effect on.
Exercise also increases the number of receptors needed to detect insulin on the muscles. In addition, the blood flow to the muscles and the total volume of blood vessels in the muscles increases over time, due to which blood glucose can be controlled better. Apart from all these direct benefits, exercise has many other benefits for diabetic patients. Exercising helps in weight loss and weight loss automatically controls diabetes and also reduces other damage caused by excess weight. Similarly, the efficiency of heart and lungs also improves due to exercise. Increased cardio-pulmonary function is very important in diabetic patients.
Many diabetic patients die due to heart damage caused by diabetes. If the heart is kept healthy by regular exercise, then the possibility of damage to it is reduced. So, if you want to avoid diabetes, start exercising from today. Daily 30 to 45 minutes of walking, swimming, cycling or any other aerobic exercise is very necessary for every man. Even after diabetes, regular exercise proves to be a blessing in controlling it. Such aerobic exercise is more beneficial than heavy exercise like weightlifting.
Points to keep in mind for diabetic patient to exercise safely
- (1) Check your blood pressure, weight and blood sugar before resuming exercise. Find out whether there are any complications of diabetes on legs, kidneys, eyes or heart or not.
- (2) If you have complications, decide which exercise to do accordingly with the doctor's advice. If there is a problem in the legs, instead of walking, one should choose cycling or exercise with equipment that gives strength to the hands. If you have eye problems, you should do exercise at home instead of doing Sarat outside the house.
- (3) Blood sugar level before exercise is 250 mg. / Daily. less than and 100 mg. / D.L. should be more than , should not have deton bodies in the blood and should not suffer from frequent drops in blood sugar. If you have severe or worsening eye problems, do not exercise too much because the drop in blood pressure caused by exercise can further damage the retina.
- (4) 5-10 minutes of warm-up exercises that gently stretch the muscles and joints before starting the exercise and 5-10 minutes of slow-speed full-down exercises at the end are necessary. In between 20 to 30 minutes, exercise so much that the maximum capacity of the heart reaches approximately 70 percent.
- (5) Do not use insulin immediately after injection. In those who have taken insulin injections in the arms and legs, by doing the exercise that involves movement of the arms and legs, the insulin will be mixed in the blood very quickly and the blood sugar level will decrease very much - dizziness or fainting will occur. Therefore, do not exercise immediately in the arms and legs that have received insulin injection.
- (6) If exercise causes blood sugar to drop too much, have a light breakfast an hour or so before exercise, or drink skimmed milk. If you have to exercise for more than half a class, eat something in between. Also keep something like chickpeas, papayas, khakhars or pips so that if the symptoms of low sugar are noticed, it can be taken immediately.
